Whether directed at an entire business, an organization within a business, a collection of systems or a single application, manage change ensures that additions or changes to these assets are: made with an understanding of business goals, objectives, and constraints; prioritized and packaged into related initiatives; accomplished within well-defined and resourced projects; evaluated for their impact prior, during and after delivery.

Manage change comprises four milestones or gates: direct, decide, delegate and deliver with specific completion criteria. The process also includes four groupings of information: targets, portfolios, charters and impacts that define the information required to accomplish the process.
